What's Happening at Weed Man & Mosquito Hero

Welcome to this month's e-newsletter, a valuable source of lawn care advice, updates on Weed Man activities, and more.

The cold temperatures of this winter could have damaged the roots of your warm-season Bermuda, Zoysia, St. Augustine, & Centipede. You will not know until spring green-up in April/May. The reason is that warm-season grass in Georgia never goes completely dormant. So when we have extreme cold as we did this January, some warm-season turf can be damaged. The good news is that it is fairly easy and inexpensive to fix. Simply core aerate as you normally would in the spring, and these spots will fill in. Just know that this is common and cannot be prevented. We just want you to know what to look for and to understand the process if you are affected.

Rain will not harm the effectiveness of this
application. We use the best pre-emergent in the business that has an added ingredient which helps it stick to grass and not wash away. Once it has been applied, rain does not cause problems.

Remember, we do more than just applications. We want you to think of us as your resource for technical and practical knowledge about your lawn. If your lawn is not the best looking one on your street, we want to hear from you and do everything necessary to make it the best in the neighborhood. We really mean that. The only way we can develop a good long-term relationship with you is by establishing good communication and providing results.

It is Time for a Spring Aeration of Your Bermuda, Zoysia, & St Augustine Lawn!

Thatch and compaction in your lawn can make it difficult for your grass to thrive. If your grass looks matted down, gray or generally dull and lifeless, it probably needs a pick-me-up.

Over time, thatch can build up in your lawn’s root zone, restricting its health and development. Thatch is a layer of undecomposed living and dead plant parts. Excessive thatch and our hot, dry summers cause soil compaction, making it difficult for roots to grow and limiting nutrition movement through the soil. It can also provide a safe haven for unwanted insects and diseases.

Aeration helps break up compacted soil and enhances the development of a deep root system, by allowing more air, water and nutrients into the root zone of your turf grass. A deeply rooted lawn will be healthier and better able to withstand potential turf stresses. Just call the office for pricing and scheduling if you haven’t done so already. You will be glad you did this summer!

Grooming Your Lawn

The sight of a thick, green home lawn makes you want to run barefoot through your yard enjoying the lush feeling beneath your feet. To achieve this dream and to make the most of Weed Man's plant nutrition and fertilization programs, it’s important that you follow proper mowing techniques.

A properly mowed lawn is thicker, healthier and better able to withstand stresses like weeds, insects and diseases. Lawns should be mowed regularly, at the proper height and with a sharp mower blade for a clean cut and in order to establish deep roots for your lawn to look its very best.

Water Sense

Watering properly is not as easy as turning on the outdoor water tap once a week. Rather, proper watering is more of an art than a science, and your local Weed Man professional can help establish parameters for your lawn.
